DEPARTMENT HANDS OVER CERTIFICATES AND TOOLS OF TRADE TO 125 NATIONAL YOUTH SERVICE PROGRAMME PARTICIPANTS WHO SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED THEIR TRADE TEST.

One-hundred and twenty -five (125) young people were today awarded certificates during a graduation ceremony, symbolising completion of their artisan programme facilitated through the National Youth Service Progrramme of EPWP in partnership with MerSeta.

 The young people were trained in welding, electrical works, diesel mechanics, fitting and turning for a period of 24 months. 

As part of their send off, the department of Public Works, Roads and Infrastructure led by the Acting HOD, Mr Daddy Phukuntsi, representing MEC Nkakareng Rakgoale, handed over tools of trade in order for young people to start working in their communities and participate in the economy of the province.  

He said, “Those artisans who venture into business should be nurtured, monitorerd, mentored and supported as this will contribute towards regional local economic development and create opportunities and jobs within our communities.”

One beneficiary, Mr. Vusani Munyai, spoke of how the programme intervened in his life. He Indicated that through the programme he has been able to start a small welding business and has atleast 10 other young people working with him.
